According to Jalopnik, a Hot Wheels movie is in the works.

It seems a director is already attached as well, and it's none other than Justin Lin of Fast and the Furious fame. We have no word on what's in store for our favorite miniature machines, but Lin certainly knows his way around a film with cars involved. Plus, we know the little things can drift pretty well.

Lin was in the director's chair for films three through six of the Fast franchise: The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, and Fast & Furious 6. He is not responsible for Fast and Furious: Back in Time, Fast & Furious Takes Manhattan, and 50 Shades of Fast Furiousness, but then again, nobody is...yet.

Justin Lin also recently took over directing duty for the latest film in the updated J.J. Abrams-led Star Trek series. We still have no idea what this means for a Hot Wheels film, but we're definitely willing to learn more.

After all, if you're like us, you can't make a stop at your local convenience store without at least taking a quick peek in the toy aisle.
