Vin Diesel has confirmed via social media that the first trailer for Fast 8 will be released on December 11, 2016.

The new movie is the upcoming eighth installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise. It lands in theaters on April 14, 2017 and brings some new stars into the fold, including Scott Eastwood, Charlize Theron and even Dame Helen Mirren.

In addition to confirming the release date for the first trailer, Diesel, who plays the lead character Dominic Toretto in the franchise, said the trailer will show why “there was tension” and help us to “understand the intensity.”

Diesel is likely referring to August’s online outburst made by fellow Fast crew member Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson. Using Facebook, Johnson went on a rant that included expletives to describe the performance of some co-stars.

Whether this “tension” is legitimate or simply a publicity stunt to shine some light on a tired franchise, we’ll probably never know. Nevertheless, fans—of which there appear to be many, judging by ticket sales of previous installments—have more than just the holidays to look forward to this December.
