Chinese automaker Geely is preparing to launch a new car brand aimed at global markets.
The new brand is called Lynk & Co and is set to have its official coming out party on October 20, 2016. A single teaser shot depicting the grille of Lynk & Co’s first model has been released to build excitement.
The first model is expected to be a compact SUV based on the CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform developed by Geely in partnership with Volvo.

Geely, through its ownership of Volvo, already competes in the global luxury segment. Now it plans to target the global mainstream segment. That’s where Lynk & Co comes in.
In a statement, a Lynk & Co representative said the thinking behind the brand is very different from anything we’ve yet seen in the auto industry, and that it might change the world’s idea of mobility. You can take that as meaning there will likely be some form of car sharing in Lynk & Co’s plans.
In April, Reuters reported that Geely was developing a global mainstream brand under the code name L. Sources said the company would initially target the Chinese market before expanding into Europe and eventually the United States.
Geely already has a number of brands in its home market including a namesake brand, and last year its combined sales totaled over half a million vehicles. Geely also owns the London Taxi Company which makes the famous black cabs used in the U.K. capital.
