Nissan is venturing into the Le Mans world with its all-new GT-R LM Nismo LMP1 prototype racer. The car is quite different from the competition it will be racing against thanks to its front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout.

The rest of the field typically runs with a mid-rear setup. Nissan revealed the car completely when it ran its recent Super Bowl ad, and we'll get to see it in the flesh at the Chicago Auto Show. It looks fine with its race clothes on, but we've recently discovered that it looks completely badass when it's naked.

The Nismo team posted a photo of the car out for some testing, and it looks positively punk. The body work is off and it reveals what looks to be an alien hot rod form a punk rock future world. That's due to the fact that we're seeing the car with that cabin space in the back, behind the exposed engine. If Hollywood ever wanted to remake the movie The Wraith, while I think we've found the star car for the main automotive role.

That exposed engine space reveals the 3.0-liter V-6 that uses a pair of turbos for some forced induction. An electric power system adds in additional power to boost the total output up to 1,250 horsepower. There's also a kinetic energy system that captures extra electrons under braking. We're not yet sure if that power is sent to the rear wheels or out to all four, but we're pretty certain that a good portion of it heads out back.

We'll know more once we get face time with the car in Chicago.
