Sure, the Hellcat is the Dodge that makes all the headlines. And rightfully so, as the idea of a 707-horsepower coupe being offered for less than $65,000 is a big deal.

It's not the only Challenger though, and there are some great choices available for those who enjoy horsepower and noise while also disliking their rear tires. Enter the 2015 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack.

Yes, the name is a bit stupid. For those wondering where it comes from, you have to go back to 1968. That's when Chrysler started offering up hotted-up versions of its R/T trim cars.

The Scat Pack line basically stuffed big motors into entry level machines, giving the true enthusiasts the cars they'd wind up hot rodding in their garages anyway. This time it was straight from the factory, warranty and all. The name disappeared from the Dodge lineup in 1971, due to a lawsuit with a California company operating under the Scat name.

The name is back though, and it's fitted to the right car. What we have here is a 2015 Challenger R/T that features the 485-horsepower 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 engine under its hood. It can be had with either a six-speed manual gearbox or the eight-speed automatic. Out back, the noise is channeled through the same exhaust setup as found under the rear of the Hellcat.

It's significantly less expensive than the Hellcat, with a starting price of around $38,000. Yet it's also just as much fun for the majority of folks out there. Burnouts, donuts, and other sorts of acts of Hoonsanity are all just a press of the throttle away.
