Tony Stewart took to the Southern Iowa Speedway dirt track on Monday night to take part in a sprint car race. He wound up wrecking, and the crash was a rough one, as Stewart ended up breaking his right leg. Both the fibula and tibia... ouch.

Because of the wreck, Stewart will have to sit out of the Watkins Glen International. This marks the first Cup race Stewart will miss after making an incredible 521 consecutive starts.

Stewart is currently 11th in points this season. He won the Chase for the Sprint Cup in 2005, and again in 2011. This accident, which required Stewart to have surgery on his leg, seems likely to knock him out of the Chase.

The accident occurred as Stewart was leading his sprint car race. It's a 30-lap race, and there were just five laps to go. According to The Sporting News, it seems that Stewart may have made contact with a lapped car, which caused him to flip the car several times.
