The 2014 Alfa Romeo 4C will serve as the official safety car at the Silverstone round of the 2013 World Superbike Championship, which takes place in the U.K. this weekend.

Alfa Romeo is a top sponsor of the event and has ensured its 4C safety car will stand out by decking it out in a special livery whose red, white and green hues mimic the Italian flag.

This is the second public outing for the 4C, with the car having recently made its dynamic debut at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed, which also took place in the U.K.

Fans of the sultry Italian sports car in the U.S. will have to wait a few more months until it shows up in showrooms. It will arrive initially as a limited ‘Launch Edition’ with the choice of two different colors: Carrara White or Alfa Red.

All 4Cs, including the limited Launch Edition, come with a mid-engine, two-seater configuration. Underpinning the car is a carbon fiber monocoque structure and power is delivered from a turbocharged and direct-injected 1.75-liter four-cylinder engine. The tiny yet potent engine rates in at 240 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and spins the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Further down the track, Alfa Romeo is expected to launch a hardcore 4C aimed at track enthusiasts as well as a 4C convertible.
