The Acura MDX isn't really a standout SUV in any respect, but we've always had a soft spot for its look--for some reason, it just wears its size well. But now we have to prepare ourselves for a new MDX, as Acura will be showing a 2014 MDX prototype at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.

The current MDX is on its seventh model year, priming it for replacement with a fresh version. This teaser image is the first peek at what we'll see live on the floor of Cobo Hall this January, and at first blush, we (mostly) like what we see.

Shedding the current MDX's angle-driven look in favor of a smoother, rounder look, the MDX teaser image does manage to retain most of the SUV's good proportions. It even enhances the muscular fenders. Acura calls this its "Aero Sculpture" design language.

The 2014 Acura MDX Prototype is likely to be a thinly-veiled preview of what to expect of the production vehicle, so take this prototype seriously. Whatever it is, we'll be on hand to bring you the latest live from the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
