Acura has issued a voluntary recall on its new 2013 ILX sedan due to faulty front door latches and handles.

There are some 6,228 ILX sedans affected by the latest recall in the U.S.

The recall also affects the 2012 Honda CR-V, for which there are 166,609 examples in the country.

According to Acura, simultaneous operation of the driver's or front passenger's inner door handle and either the manual or power door lock may result in the inner door handle release cable being damaged.

Should this occur, the door may not latch when closed or the door may latch and close, but then open when the door locks are operated, all of which increases the risk of a crash or injury.

Acura plans to notify owners of the latest recall next month. Owners affected by the recall will be requested to take their vehicles to their nearest Acura dealer which will replace the affected parts free of charge.
