BMW is working on a new model to enter its lineup, which will sit in between the 1- and 3-Series. The sketch shows what the car may look like in coupe form, but there’s also a rumor that there might be a roadster version. The car is expected to go on sale in 2009 and may even come with a hot four-cylinder turbo engine.

Power will be around the 210-hp (157-kW) mark for the turbo and roughly 185-hp (138-kW) in the normally aspirated version. You can also expect a diesel model for Europe. The car’s compact body should still allow four passengers to sit comfortably.

We doubt BMW will use the “Z” moniker for this type of car, perhaps just the 2 Series is a better match.
