A new V6 powered coupe and roadster from Chevrolet could be under development, possibly reviving the "Sting Ray" nameplate. According to an article from Motor Trend, the new model would likely be based on GM’s Kappa platform, which forms the basis of the three other models including the Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky and Opel GT, but with a unique six-cylinder powerplant.

The rumour mill is alleging that the car will be labelled a Corvette, and according to Ohio’s number one Vette dealer, Rick Conti, the rumours are true with the car arriving in showrooms very soon. Further claims suggest that a V6 Kappa based car may make an appearance at January’s Detroit Motor Show and will lead to a production version priced below $30,000.

The most likely mechanicals will be a 3.9L V6 based on the current Impala’s engine, driving GM’s new six-speed automatic transmission.
