BMW is currently preparing its Spartanburg plant in the US to start churning out as many as 40,000 units of its upcoming X6 crossover vehicle, and these latest spy shots gives us the best look yet as to how the new model will be styled. Clearly seen is the vehicle’s sloping coupe-like profile, truncated tail and CS-inspired front bumper.

Based on the X5 platform, most of the SUV’s powertrains will carry over including the recently installed 286hp twin-turbo 3.0L diesel as well as the range topping 367hp 4.8L V8 engine. Further down the track, it’s rumored to get a newly-developed turbocharged V8 developing 420hp, which should propel it to 100km/h in under six seconds.

Scheduled for release in the beginning of 2008, the X6 will target vehicles like the Porsche Cayenne in offering substantial performance in a practical and roomy body. Check out the images over at Winding Road.
