To make the most of the new engine, engineers have added a new automated manual gearbox. Other performance tweaks include Brembo brakes as standard, new alloy wheels and a subtle aero kit. Further differentiating the ‘S’ edition is a more bespoke interior with Alcantara trim.
Original: A number of Maserati GranTurismo prototypes have been spotted in recent months but most of these were looked over as just the upcoming convertible version due next year. According to Italy’s Corriere Motori Maserati is also testing a new high-performance version of the GranTurismo that will wear ‘S’ badges and be powered by a 440hp version of Fiat Group’s new 4.7L V8 engine (the same engine in the Alfa 8C Spyder).
Although we’re not sure of the image’s authenticity, the depicted car sports a new bumper design with integrated foglights and a revised lower intake. Completing the upgrade to the performance S grade is a new set of alloy wheels and a pair of side skirts. Expect to see an aggressively styled carbon diffuser up back with a pair of integrated exhaust tips. Along with the visual modifications, the car is also reported to get a new electronic-actuated gearbox, Brembo brakes with six-piston aluminum calipers and a sportier exhaust note.
