Here at Motor Authority, we're big fans of the team at Volvo Trucks. Their videos are always great, and their projects are entertaining and interesting.

It's not easy to make semi-trailer truck content that's compelling or entertaining, yet Volvo seems to find a way to do this on a consistent basis. The latest video shows off a new project called Iron Knight, which has been created to highlight the brands I-Shift dual-clutch transmission. It's also been created to go crazy fast in a crazy big truck.

The Iron Knight boasts a custom-built D13 engine. It's a mid-mounted 13-liter diesel engine and in this application it's producing a massive 2,400 horsepower and 4,425 pound-feet of torque. It needs all that thrust to get the massive beast moving, and get moving it does.

According to the video above, the Iron Knight set out to break truck speed records over 500- and 1,000-meter runs. It did just that with blasts of 13.71 seconds across the 500-m mark, and a time of 21.29 over 1,000 m. During the speed runs, the truck also hit 171 mph.

Now we just need a second Iron Knight. So Volvo can bring Jean-Claude Van Damme back for new speed records for truck splits.
