A recent movie that captured the hearts of automotive enthusiasts everywhere was the film Senna. It told of the rise and eventual tragic death of one of the world's greatest race car drivers, Ayrton Senna. That film was directed by Asif Kapadia. It seems Kapadia is eager to keep within the automotive realm, as he's been tapped to direct an upcoming film that explores the history of Rolls-Royce.

Kapadia will join on to direct Silver Ghost, which will show just how Rolls-Royce came to be. The film will take you back to when founders Charles Rolls and Henry Royce joined forces. It will also explore the slightly sordid history of just how the Spirit of Ecstasy came about. Martin Scorsese is part of the production team and, prior to his death, Richard Attenborough was also attached to the project.

An interesting note about Attenborough (whom you'll probably remember most clearly as Doctor John Hammond from the first Jurassic Park) is that one of his brothers is David Attenborough. Yes, the one who makes some of the greatest nature films on the planet. His other brother John, however, worked in the automotive industry and once managed a Rolls-Royce division.

Production of the film is set to begin later this year. Quite obviously, it will be set in England but we don't know who is set to star in the movie. Regardless, it's going to be a big few years for historical automotive films and we look forward to seeing all of them. Hopefully someone out there will finally write a great DeLorean film too... it's clear that Hollywood is ready for that.
