Remember that Dubai-based hypercar? The one with the devilish name? It's called the Devel Sixteen, and it's creators have been claiming insane power figures for a number of years now. There's talk of 5,000 horsepower, a 0-60 time of less than two seconds, and a top speed of over 345 miles per hour. Those are also absolutely insane figures. One of them, however, might be real after all.

Devel has posted video on its YouTube page that shows the engine getting dynoed. This is no cammed V-8, but rather a 12.3-liter V-16 engine equipped with four turbochargers. Four massive 81-millimeter turbos, by the way. The engine roars, the dyno numbers soar, and after it's all said and done we're left with the following:

  • 4,515 horsepower at 6,900 rpm and pushing 36 psi of boost.
  • 3,519 lb-ft of torque at 6,600 rpm and 36 psi of boost.
  • 3,006 horsepower at 6,900 rpm when dropped to 20 psi of boost and running pump gas.
  • 2,407 lb-ft of torque at the lower settings.

The creators of the Devel Sixteen have teamed up with Steve Morris Engines to bring this vision to life. The resulting powerplant utilizes a billet block and camshaft, titanium valves, and those aforementioned supersized turbos. In the description of the video, it's revealed that the engine dyno couldn't hold more power above the 4,515 horsepower figure the engine was generating. There was more to be had, apparently, and the video claims the engine has more than 5,000 horses.

Now, we see that it is possible that the Devel Sixteen is ready to rock forth with ungodly horsepower on tap. That doesn't yet mean it can hit its quoted 0-60 times or top speed number. Hell, we'd be impressed if it made the dash to 60 in three seconds, seeing as the number one issue would be traction. We're also curious as to what sort of transmission is being employed here to handle that much power.

We'll be watching to see if and when Devel confirms those performance figures. Until then, enjoy the sound of 5,000 stampeding horses.
