Formula 1 is rapidly redeveloping its roots in the U.S., and to help drum up more interest in the next United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, Red Bull Racing sponsor Infiniti is holding a contest for fans to design Sebastian Vettel's helmet.

Vettel is most famous for setting records and qualifying lap times, but he's also well-known for his varied and often humorous helmet designs. What will he end up with when he puts his headwear in the hands of his fans? Vettel isn't sure, but he's hopeful.

"The helmets I wear are very important to me, as each one has a special meaning or a connection with the race in question," said Vettel. "Normally I work closely with my helmet designer to come up with a new design for every other race, and this is the first time I’ve given the fans the chance to do it for me. I can’t wait to see what they come up with!"

The contest will be a quick one: entry is open now, and will close at midnight GMT on September 29. Submissions will be judged the next day, leaving about six weeks until the November 15-16 race weekend.

In addition to getting their design on Vettel's helmet, the winner will also get to meet the man in person, and attend the race as a VIP guest of Infiniti.
