In January, we bought you news that Lamborghini would be bringing its Blancpain Super Trofeo racing series to drivers and fans in North America.

That expands the global presence of the single-car series (based around the 2013 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo) to three global markets, including Europe, Asia and (now) North America.

In its debut season, the Super Trofeo series will piggyback with races on the Grand-Am, ALMS, IMSA and IndyCar calendars. A total of six races are planned, with the following dates and venues:

  • June 15-16: Mid-Ohio with Grand-Am
  • July 5-6: Lime Rock with ALMS
  • August 17-18: Kansas City with Grand-Am
  • September 7-8: Calabogie (Canada) with IMSA
  • October 5-6 Virginia International Raceway with ALMS
  • October 18-19: Fontana with IndyCar

IMSA will be the sanctioning body for the North American series in 2013, and given yesterday’s announcement that IMSA would oversee the United SportsCar Racing series in the future, the same will likely hold true for the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series beyond 2013.

Lamborghini claims the Super Trofeo series is the fastest one-make series in the world, as well as the only single-make all-wheel drive series in motorsports. The Italian automaker bills it as the “perfect first race experience for young and gentlemen drivers,” albeit ones with deep pockets.

To further entice entrants, winners of the 2013 North American Super Trofeo series will be invited to a “finale” race in Italy, where they’ll go wheel to wheel against winners from Europe and Asia.
