Next year’s Formula One season will see a new energy drink take on the dominant Red Bull brand, with news coming out today that Coca-Cola will sponsor the Lotus F1 Team as a means to promote its new ‘Burn’ energy drink.

A logo for the energy drink, a red flame, will feature on Lotus’ F1 race cars as part of the deal. Burn is a relatively new drink but is already available in more than 80 countries.

No doubt the deal will provide the Lotus F1 Team with some much-needed funds. With the little sponsorship money the team amassed in 2012, it already managed to snag former world champion Kimi Räikkönen, and retain him for 2013.

The team has also shown impressive performance this year, with Räikkönen currently third in the Drivers’ Championship rankings.

Speaking at the announcement of the deal, Lotus F1 Team boss Eric Boullier said, “We are proud that The Coca-Cola Company has chosen Lotus F1 Team as the best vehicle to represent the burn brand in its most high profile partnership.”

Further details of the deal will be revealed in 2013 when the partnership officially launches.
