If you're into tough little trucks with incongruously fancy touches, flick your browser over to Craiglist, to this restoration of a 1972 Datsun pickup.

It's a project done by Atlanta's Heritage Motorsports, which says its mission "is to save as many classic cars and bikes as possible." Admirable enough, right?

So's the truck underneath the flat-black paint, red wheels and plaid upholstery. We like the faded logo on its doors, but there's something about the interior by Dorothy Gale and the red wheels that reminds us of a certain convertible we spied in San Francisco--and that's why this one ends up in the ugly-car bin, in a fixable way.

Heritage calls it "western-themed" and talks up its matte finish, but it's what's under the hood that really counts. It's been rebuilt with bigger Raybestos brakes, Weber carbs and a MagnaFlo exhaust--and still gets "amazing fuel economy," the ad promises. We'll buy that. The cool little truck also comes with custom LED lights, an iPod-ready stereo, and Simpson racing belts.

Maybe if you have $5500, you can liberate this one from the pound and "correct" the interior? We'll bring over some PBR and a few bolts of naturally occurring vinyl, and help you put an end to the hipster hoedown.
