There has been a changing of the guard over at Land Rover for its design team. After 23 years of service, Design Director, Geoff Upex (right) is to retire. His replacement will be Gerry McGovern (left) who is presently the Advanced Design Director for Land Rover.

Upex will still oversee much of the work until the end of the year and his influence will still be effective for the launch of the all new Freelander. During his time as design boss, Upex had seen the brand reborn into one of the most popular luxury marques for SUVs.

Some of Upex’s best work includes the current Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and Land Rover Discovery, which just happens to be some Land Rover’s best selling products in decades. Management at Land Rover and parent company Ford are confident that the new designer will be able to continue that success.
