At a U.S. Saab owners meeting recently, Saab's local chief Jay Spenchian revealed a sketch of the upcoming 9-4X crossover. Images taken at the presentation have been displayed. Styling follows design cues taken from the Aero X concept with mechanicals based on a General Motors Company's [NYSE:GM] Theta architecture or possibly an update Epsilon platform.

Production is likely to be at one of GM’s Mexican plants starting in Spring of 2008. Engine choices will be a 250-horsepower 2.8-liter V-6 or a high-performance 300-hp turbocharged version.

The new vehicle can’t be introduced soon enough. Saab is in desperate need of a respectable crossover SUV and the burgeoning segment is simply too hard to ignore.
