The ultra-luxury marques are anxious to develop more affordable vehicles in an effort to expand their portfolios and increase sales in more diverse markets. Hot on the heels of reports that Rolls-Royce is working on entry-level small car, rival luxury brand Maybach has revealed that it’s considering a new ‘baby’ saloon positioned above the current flagship model and the range-topping Mercedes S600.

As we reported earlier, the initial problem according to DaimlerChrysler chairman Dieter Zetsche is determining under which label to sell the new car. Currently there is a gap in the price between the top end Mercedes and current Maybach of roughly £150,000 meaning there's a niche for luxury saloons priced within this range.

Rolls Royce’s new car would spawn several models including a convertible and even a coupe, so if Maybach were to compete it would have to do so as well. Hopefully this means we’ll be seeing several new models from the luxury auto makers. Pictured above is a rendering from UK’s Auto Express. Follow the jump for their full report.
