Hyundai is planning to add a rear-wheel-drive sedan powered by a V-8 engine to its lineup, a car that will be previewed by the Concept Genesis that’s expected to be unveiled at the upcoming 2007 New York Auto Show.

Heavily disguised test mules of a large Hyundai sedan have been spotted in both the United States and Europe, a sedan that is expected to replace the current Equus as the Korean brand's flagship.

Spy images reveal a car with an upmarket interior, woodgrain and leather trim and enough space to rival the large sedans from Germany. The price of the new four-door should start in the low $30,000 range for a base 263-horsepower version powered by the same 3.8-liter V-6 found in the Azera sedan.

The new high-end sedan will be Hyundai’s first attempt at creating a true luxury vehicle for export markets and a key step towards the company’s goal of becoming one of the top five automakers in the world by the end of the decade.
