Set to be unveiled at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show, Peugeot’s new 308 RC Z concept car shows that its French engineers can develop a sporty coupe with enough performance credentials to match their German counterparts. The lightweight coupe concept car picks up several aluminum components and carbon-fiber panels to shed the kilos, weighing in at 1,200kg all up.

Power comes from a 1.6L turbo engine sourced from the 207 RC and develops 218hp and 280Nm in concept form. A special overboost function lifts torque to 300Nm, which enables to car to reach 100km/h from rest in seven seconds all the way to a top speed of 235km/h.

The car’s body draws obvious styling cues from the Audi TT but still maintains its own uniqueness. Measuring in at 4.276m in length and 1.84m across, the concept sheds an almost identical silhouette to the Audi model but there’s no mistaking the front-end as a Peugeot.
