After a long career of left turns, Jeff Gordon's retirement just took a hard right back into the driver's seat. According to Road & Track, Gordon is putting down the Werther's Original to jump behind the wheel of a new racing machine from Cadillac.

The car in question is Cadillac's all-new DPi-V.R, which is the Daytona Prototype that the automaker is using to jump back into the sport. The team and the car will make their debut at the IMSA opener for 2017, which is the Rolex 24. The racing begins January 28.

Gordon has run in the Rolex 24 Hour race before. Back in 2007, he joined Wayne Taylor, Max Angelelli, and Jan Magnussen to compete in a Pontiac Riley prototype. The team finished third overall. Jeff Gordon will be jumping in this new Cadillac with Angelelli and Magnussen again, and he'll also be joined by Wayne Taylor's sons Ricky and Jordan.

The Cadillac and the retired NASCAR racer will get some together time during a pre-race test session. Then it's out on that Florida racing circuit for a top-tier test of man and machine.
