2010 Ferrari 458 Italia
So what do you do to attract new customers if your business is letting them drive stock cars around America’s famed NASCAR tracks? In the case of the Richard Petty Driving Experience, you branch out to include exotic cars, that’s what.
Starting with a trial program in Orlando, FL, the Richard Petty Driving Experience is launching the Exotic Driving Experience. Customers can choose from seat time in an Audi R8, a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, a Ferrari F430, a Ferrari 458 Italia, a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 or a Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera.
Since lapping a tri-oval race track in an exotic car isn’t the stuff dreams are made of, the Exotic Driving Experience is working on a road course to show off the handling of cars designed to turn both left and right. If the program is a success in Orlando, future expansion plans call for franchises in Daytona and Homestead, possibly followed by a regional or national expansion.
As AutoWeek points out, the Richard Petty Driving Experience has a presence at over 20 tracks nationwide, which means that there’s plenty of room for growth if the Exotic Driving Experience proves lucrative.
Prices start at just $99, but that only buys you a ride-along with an instructor. If you actually want to drive, the least expensive package starts at $199 for six laps in the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Opt for the Ferrari 458 Italia (like we would), and the price jumps to $389 for the same six laps.
On the the plus side, the prices include classroom instruction and real-time coaching from a ride-along instructor. If you’re lucky enough to be in the market for an exotic car, the program will allow you to try-before-you-buy, potentially saving you thousands of dollars in the process.
If you’re part of the unwashed masses (like us), the program allows you to experience the thrill of driving an exotic at speed, in a safe and controlled environment, for less than the cost of a monthly lease payment.
