After driving a new BMW 335i, Jason Cammisa of Automobile Magazine felt the car was more powerful then the quoted 302hp from BMW. The car in question, a brand new 335i was dyno-tested and the results proved his theory correct. On the dyno, the 335i made 275hp and 406Nm torque at the wheels. Estimating drive-train loss of roughly 20-25%, this equates at close to 350hp and 480Nm of torque at the flywheel! But where did the estimate for drive-train loss come from? The result of a comparable BMW’s 330i sedan that shares many internal components with the new coupe was used.

This amazing result could be because BMW had to quote lower figures for the 335i so as to make the forthcoming M3 that much more special. The new twin-turbo chargers are considered small by turbo standards but BMW engines are renowned for their amazing power levels from relatively small capacities, so perhaps these figures are reliable.
