There have been a few reports online recently about Toyota’s plans to bring one of their European small cars to the US as a competitor to DaimlerChrysler’s Smart brand. With the recent increases in fuel, auto companies now believe that America is ready for mini cars.

Now Edmunds has come out with information that the new car will be based on the Toyota Aygo, but will have a revised exterior with a more chiselled look. The other big change will be in interior ergonomics, with more space for occupants to get in as well as extra storage area behind the seats. Underneath, the car will probably have at least 100hp to cater to the American market, though the smaller engine with only 68hp may also be sold alongside.
