Porsche has displayed the potent RS Spyder Le Mans, which was created at its Weissach R&D Centre, in its stand at the Paris Motor Show. Based on the current version that’s been racing under the guise of the US Penske-Motorsports-Team, the new car has been designed in accordance with the rules and regulations of the French Automobile Club de'l Ouest (A.C.O.) racing organisation to compete in the European series.

Adopting the latest computer design techniques and comprehensive wind tunnel tests has seen the car update its chassis and aero parts. New carbon fibre manufacturing processes have allowed for improved convenience in service and maintenance and output from the 3.4L V8 has been increased by 23bhp, up to 503bhp (370kW) at 10,300rpm and the entire thing weighs in at just 1709lb (775kg).

Power is sent through the tough-as-nails triple plate carbon-fibre clutch six-speed sequential transmission and with steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters for control. The Le Mans series allows driver’s aids such as brake force distribution, which features on the huge 14.96in carbon-fibre brake discs. We wonder if Porsche will be able to match its current success over here in the US when the new RS starts in Europe.
