Porsche has a long record of innovation and is once again breaking new ground with the establishment of the digitization department Porsche Digital.
Among its contemporaries, Porsche was the first to expand into SUVs and offer a hybrid, and with the launch of the production version of the Mission E concept will likely be the first with an electric car.
Porsche was also one of the first to launch a standalone consulting division.
Focus on mobility services, connectivity and autonomous cars
Porsche Digital will also be standalone division, with its headquarters in Stuttgart and satellite facilities in Berlin, Silicon Valley and parts of China.
Headed by Thilo Koslowski, the goal of Porsche Digital will be to ensure Porsche remains at the forefront of the convergence of the automotive and digital worlds. The division will also serve as the bridge between Porsche the automaker and the ever-changing tech landscape. This applies in particular to the areas of mobility services, connectivity and autonomous cars.
In addition, Porsche Digital will promote partnerships with suitable partners, including equity holdings in venture capital funds and startups. Similarly, Porsche’s Volkswagen Group parent recently invested in ride-sharing business Gett, and fellow VW Group brand Audi was one of the buyers of Nokia’s HERE digital map business whose highly-precise map data is being used to develop autonomous cars.
