London’s Westminster City Council has unveiled its new scheme of free electric car charging power points in an effort to help reduce pollution in the area. The council hopes more people will take up electric cars if they offer free recharge points in central city areas. Two points have been installed but the council will build another 48 free charging stations in 13 car parks in the area. Electric vehicles already have many extra perks such as being able to avoid London’s notorious congestion charge and better rates on parking. At the moment the points will be primarily used by G-Wiz vehicles, but more fully electric vehicles such as the Smart EV are expected to arrive in the UK by next year. It’s only a matter of time before more city councils around the world start introducing paid and free electric car recharging.
