Mercedes and Rolls Royce will be vying for attention when both companies launch super-luxury convertibles at the Detroit Auto Show, confirms Automotive News. The Mercedes model will be based on the S-class sedan and will come with a soft-top. Unlike most convertibles, it’ll be able to seat four-people and is supposed to be more luxurious than the sedan upon which it’s based. Sources are reporting it’ll have the same 6.0L V12 as found in the S600 and develop 510hp. Click here for a possible rendering of the S-class convertible by German magazine Auto Motor und Sport.

The Rolls Royce convertible will essentially be a production version of the 100EX shown two years ago. We expect it to be very similar, and retain many of the same styling cues and technology.
