The new Mazda6 mid-size sedan will be making its world debut at next week’s Frankfurt Motor Show and in fitting with the show’s green theme, the new model will be slightly lighter, more fuel-efficient and cleaner than the one it replaces. Underscoring the carmaker’s new ‘Sustainable Zoom-Zoom’ vision, the new Mazda6 follows the trend first set by the new Mazda2/Demio in which new models are lighter and emit less harmful carbon-dioxide emissions than outgoing versions.

Previous spy shots of the Mazda6 revealed a model that appears slightly larger than the current car and US versions are likely to receive a 3.5L V6 powerplant, however, the official word is that the new car will weigh less.

Mazda will also use the Frankfurt Show to unveil a new diesel version of the Mazda2 as well as celebrate the 40th anniversary of using rotary engines by presenting a special edition RX-8.
