Lexus currently sells an AWD version of its LS flagship in the form of the range-topping LS 600h but the carmaker is planning to add the same AWD set-up in the LS 460. Set to make its world debut at next week’s Moscow International Motor Show, the new LS 460 AWD will eventually go on sale in December.

The AWD system features the same compact Torsen limited-slip differential integrated on the rear drive shaft as the LS 600h but instead of being linked to an electronically controlled CVT, the LS 460 AWD system sticks with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The system splits torque 40/60 between the front and rear axles under normal driving conditions but changes the ratio to 30/70 front to rear when conditions become more demanding. Power from the car’s 4.6L petrol V8 engine remains at 381hp (280kW).

Lexus will also use the upcoming Moscow event for the local launch of the IS-F and to showcase its LF-A Roadster Concept.
