Mitsubishi is expanding its Lancer range for the latest model year, adding the new Lancer Evolution X Special Edition, which at $36,445 (including a $745 destination charge) sits somewhere between the standard GSR and upmarket MR.

Despite being almost $3,000 cheaper than the MR, the new 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X SE still comes with the automaker’s brilliant TC-SST dual clutch transmission and all three driving modes: Normal, Sport and Super-Sport. Also standard is the Evo X’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which for the latest model year is still rated at 291 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque.

The car also features the MR Touring’s rear lip-spoiler and Bilstein shocks but it comes with the base GSR’s front cowling, wheels and blacked out side vents. Inside, it only gets cloth Recaro seats and satellite navigation remains optional.

If you’re interested in the new 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X SE, you will have to wait until September for it to arrive in showrooms.
