If you thought there were already too many AMG models to allow the brand to remain exclusive, then news of the creation of a new performance studio from the German tuner can only dilute the brand further. AMG will have three levels of product, a top-end Signature Series, mid-tier Black Series and the entry level Edition Series.

The most exclusive and thus expensive Signature Series will produce a new range of low-volume models with much higher performance than the current AMG line-up. According to AMG CEO, Volker Mornhinweg, customers are demanding “more dynamic models, special equipment features and specific components.” Cars from this range will be similar to the CLK DTM coupe pictured above. This is the fastest road going car ever produced by AMG and the next model is already on the drawing boards.

Models from the Black Series, like the already released SLK55 with the 400 hp (297 kW) version of the standard 5.4-liter V8, aims at creating cars that emphasize racetrack capabilities. The Edition range consists mainly of changes to the appearance of cars, both inside and out.
