A new British sports car company has built a 670Kg roadster that’s entirely handbuilt and can do the 0-62mph sprint in 3.6 seconds, which is bordering on Supercar territory. The Javan R1, built by Javan Sports Cars, packs a mid mounted 2L 4-cyl Honda i-VTEC engine developing 220bhp.

The engine is sourced from the Civic Type-R and can rev to 8600rpm coupled with a six speed gearbox. The car is manufactured with an epoxy bonded aluminium honeycomb monocoque for extreme lightness and strength.

Due to its extremely light weight and high power engine, it can reach 100mph in just under 10 seconds, and can do the standing quarter mile in 12.2 seconds. Of course, none of those figures mean much for a car obviously designed to be more about handling than simply outright acceleration. It looks like there will be a lot of competition in the fun trackday car market, with buyers able to pick between Lotus, Ariel, Caterham, and now Javan. Pricing for the R1 is £30,138.75 (approx US$60,000).
