DaimlerChrysler’s Smart brand is yet to prove a success, but we’ve taken a liking to their small roadsters. The idea was right, but they just didn’t have the right combination of style and performance. Now meet the Michalak Design C7, a fiberglass hotrod that’s built around a Smart Fortwo donor car.

The C7 is actually a do-it-yourself kit car that utilized the Smart’s running gear. This means a 3 cylinder turbo mated to a six-speed transmission and full Smart switchgear and accessories including the interior and suspension components. Depending on the success of the initial two-seat roadster, Michalak are planning both coupe and convertible models.

Construction of the home made car requires only basic equipment but the parts alone will set you back close to $10,000, on top of the donor car.
