Fiat and Microsoft’s venture into in-car computing has been with us for less than year, but already we have news of an update to the system. The latest feature in Fiat's Blue&Me is the addition of an SMS reader. Current users of the system can download the latest application and install it via a portable flash drive. Best of all, it’s totally free. The new app works in conjunction with your mobile phone’s Bluetooth and utilises text-to-speech technology to read out incoming messages.

In related news, Fiat is trialling new steering wheel mounted buttons that control the Blue&Me in-car system. The new buttons include a “Start and Esc” key, similar to that found on a computer. We hope motorists aren’t too alarmed when confronted with the new controls.
