Yes it’s true. The Dallas police have actually had their “bait” car stolen and they have no idea where it is. The vehicle is used to lure would be car thieves into stealing it, and then normally it’s tracked using surveillance technology. This time round it has disappeared but the police believe they may be able to retrieve it.

The car is equipped with cameras, a remote engine kill switch, and a tracking system but apparently the systems were not turned on. Acts by such brazen thieves are not unheard of. In a previous incident, a D.C. Police chief had his car stolen from in front of his house and in Boulder, a County Sheriff's Deputy K9 vehicle and dog went missing.
