Despite criticism about Porsche’s becoming too common and increased competition in the segment, Porsche latest generation 911 has gone on to sell 100,000 units in just over three years. Production started for the new model (designated 997) in April 2004, and deliveries have been increasing every year since. The “record” Porsche is a red Carrera S with manual gearbox that will be delivered to a lucky owner in Germany within the next few days.

Porsche builds a total of 16 different variants of the 911 ranging from the base Carrera to the hardcore race spec GT3 RSR. It’s expected the top-of-the-line GT2 will also be added in the near future, giving the latest 911 ammo to take on the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini.
