Just as there will be a sporty MINI Cooper S Diesel model, so too will there be a Clubman S Diesel. Combining the sporty elements of the Clubman S with the fuel-efficiency of the diesel-powered Clubman, the new S Diesel model should appeal to performance fans looking to save on their fuel bills but still want an exhilarating drive.

The new photos show a "Clubman SD" badge that may be the short name for the upcoming car, as the current diesel-powered Clubman is known as the Clubman D in overseas markets. According to onlookers, the prototype featured a typical diesel sound.

Output from the car’s uprated engine is expected to range from somewhere between 140 and 150 horsepower.

Also in the works is a MINI Cabrio S Diesel, which you can see spy shots of by clicking here. MINI hasn’t announced plans for any such models but given the completed look of this prototype, it appears as though the fuel-efficient sports hatch could be in production by next year--and this one could even reach the U.S.
