Pictured here is the upcoming facelift for the Volkswagen Touareg. Incorporating new headlights, redesigned front and rear bumpers plus sporty new alloys, the big VW still retains its rather simple yet elegant design.

Interior mods are even more subtle. Layout trim remains the same except for minor changes to the seats and an upgraded navigation system. This is not all bad; money has been well spent elsewhere. The base engine will now be the latest direct-injection 3.6 V6 FSI and for the first time US buyers can opt for the monster V10 diesel currently available in other markets. Let's hope the fuel economy and reliability issues of the previous model have been addressed.

If the subtle styling is a little too blasé for your tastes and offerings from Range Rover and the other German manufacturers don’t ring your bell, then look out for the upcoming Touareg Sport set for launch next year. It is rumoured to have a more coupe-like profile, lower-riding suspension and of course, huge power – twin-turbo V8 anyone?
