To Buick, size should have little to do with vehicle safety. Its smallest sedan, the Verano, recently earned a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway... March 30, 2012 by Kurt Ernst
Here’s some good news if you’ll be shopping for a Chevy Malibu, Chevy Equinox, GMC Terrain, Buick Verano or Buick Regal next year: GM is pulling the 2.4-liter... January 11, 2012 by Kurt Ernst
Buick is in the middle of a renaissance these days, reinventing itself from a purveyor of dull-but-quiet sedans for the AARP set, to a maker of near-luxury cars for the... November 7, 2011 by Kurt Ernst
We've driven the 2012 Buick Verano, and it's more Buick, less Cruze than you might think. Karma is up in arms over the EPA's 20 mpg/52 mpg-e ratings and says its owners will... October 21, 2011 by Nelson Ireson
Not too long ago, when Buick and Pontiac (and farther back, Oldsmobile) occupied a vague middle ground that was more premium (or sportier-flavored) than Chevrolet but not as... October 21, 2011 by Bengt Halvorson 1
Nailing down the Verano's competitive set is quite the task.
That's because there really aren't any direct ones now—though we expect there to be more offerings in its class, like the Lincoln MKC and an upcoming smaller Acura sedan, within a year or two.
For now, the somewhat sportier-feeling Acura TSX is a possible sedan to cross-shop, though the Acura isn't up to the Verano's standards of smooth and quiet.
Audi's A3 is a hatchback for now, but it's about the same size and price; for the same money, you definitely get more of everything in the Verano, but there's no all-wheel drive offered in the Buick.
The Infiniti G25 and Lexus IS 250 are two other rivals; both are rear-wheel drive sedans, primarily, with cramped backseats compared to the Verano and less comfort, but they're sportier.
Slightly downmarket from the Verano is the Chrysler 200; in theory, Chrysler intends to make the same sort of statement with upper trims of the 200, but it simply doesn't feel luxurious in the same way as the Verano.
