Lexus is developing a race car based on its new LC coupe.

A prototype was spotted recently in Japan by Twitter user @Lexusracing_36, and although it’s heavily disguised we can clearly see the car is based on the LC.

Lexus’ LF-LC GT Vision Gran Turismo concept from 2015 hints at what’s to come. Although the concept previewed the production LC, it’s decidedly more race car than production car.

The LC race car will likely serve as Lexus’ entry in popular Japanese touring car series Super GT. Yes, that series that pits awesome race cars based on some of the most popular sports cars in production against each other. We’re taking cars based on the Acura NSX, Nissan GT-R, Mercedes-AMG GT and even the Toyota Prius.

Lexus is already represented in the series by a car based on the RC F. Soon we should see this LC-based car. Expect it to compete in the premier GT500 class of Super GT.

We don’t have any details but expect to see a series-regulated turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine mounted up front and spinning the rear wheels via a sequential transmission. Construction should be mostly carbon fiber.
