In standard trim the Lexus LFA supercar has lapped the notorious Nurburgring-Nordschleife in a reasonable 7:38, but now the car equipped with its optional Nurburgring Package has done the feat in just 7:14.64.

Yes, you read that correctly. And here's the video to prove it.

Not only is this time amazing for a naturally aspirated, rear-wheel drive luxury car, but it beats the times of stripped out road-going racers like the Porsche 911 GT2 RS (7:18), Dodge Viper ACR (7:22.1), and Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 (7:19.63).

In fact, the only production cars to have beaten it, of which there are just three, could barely be called road-going. They include the Radical SR8 LM (6:48), Radical SR8 (6:55) and the Gumpert Apollo Speed (7:11.57).

News of the epic feat originally started when EVO journalist and avid racer Chris Harris posted “Akira Iida was the man who did the LFA's 7.14. Great time” on his Twitter account.

Lexus Europe then retweeted it on its account, saying “7:14 around where? If it's the 'Ring, it's astonishing.< yes Nurburgring”.

Japanese driver Akira Iida, a man that’s competed in Japan’s Super GT touring car series as well as the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the VLN, including in the Lexus LFA at the recent Nurburgring 24 Hours endurance race, is credited with accomplishing the amazing time.

The Lexus LFA Nurburgring Package costs an additional $70,000 on top of the already exorbitant $375,000 sticker of the regular LFA. It adds a host of aero aids, 10 more horsepower, and faster gearbox programming, and this record feat was achieved with standard spec Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tires.
