The decision to drop the badge comes after a 40 year production timeline where the Corolla became the best selling car of all time with over 30 million of them sold globally. Toyota UK is prepping a new small-mid size car to take on the Ford Focus and Honda Civic and is worried buyers may not pay enough attention to the reliable but bland Corollas.

The new Civic is doing extremely well with a younger age demographic and Toyota hopes that a radical shift in car design and branding will bring them in to dealerships. The new car will be released next year but its name is unknown.

A four-door version will keep the Corolla name but the three and five-door hatchbacks will be rebadged.

  1. Dumping the Corolla name??? WTF? That's a terrible idea. Me being a young 2005 Corolla S owner is def. against dropping the Corolla name. I think it would be a mistake, seems like every single car company is dropping their best sellers, why?
