Donkevoort in May unveiled the D8 GTO-RS, a wider, more focused version of its D8 GTO sports car on sale since 2011.

Donkevoort planned to build just 40 examples of the D8 GTO-RS but it proved so popular that the Dutch firm has announced some additional examples. They will be special edition models, one for the road and the other strictly for the track.

The road-going special edition is the D8 GTO-RS Bare Naked Carbon Edition. It will be limited to just 15 examples and as the name suggests the car’s carbon fiber elements will be left unpainted.

The other special edition is the D8 GTO-RS Race Edition. This one will feature a number of enhancements aimed at improving its performance at the track, including a new sequential transmission. Unfortunately, the changes made will mean the car is no longer street legal. Just 10 of these will be made.

No change is made to the powertrain in either car, in this case a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-5 from the Audi Sport division. Donkevoort uses a unique engine management to improve torque throughout the rev range. Peak output hovers around 380 horsepower and the standard transmission is a 6-speed manual.

Unfortunately, there are no plans to sell any of the cars in the United States. In Europe, the starting price for a D8 GTO-RS is 151,173 euros (approximately $162,615). Anyone placing an order today will have to wait until January 2018 for delivery.
