Donkevoort isn't a household name—unless you keep up with Nürburgring records, in which case you probably know that the company's dedicated sports car held the fastest times for a street-legal car around the challenging Nordschleife in 2004 and 2006.

Aimed at taking back that record, the company's new D8 GTO-RS is slightly larger but benefits from a decade's worth of engineering and design work.

The D8 GTO-RS utilizes a turbocharged 2.5-liter 5-cylinder sourced from Audi, the same unit that powers the previous-generation TT RS. Donkevoort teamed up with Bosch to tune the powertrain for track use, although the D8 GTO-RS is actually street legal thanks to its EU6 emissions compliance.

The GTO-RS has a much wider track than the standard Donkevoort D8 GTO and features a thoroughly upgraded braking system, both of which should help it deliver a faster time around the famous German race track. As an essentially dedicated track car, the GTO-RS isn't exactly dripping with convenience and luxury features, but its all-business interior features plenty of leather and carbon fiber trim.

The company hasn't yet released the GTO-RS's specs, but it is safe to say it will tip the scales a little under the standard GTO's roughly 1,532 pounds.

Donkevoort says it will assemble just 40 D8 GTO-RSs, listing for about $174,000 each. So far, 21 have been snapped up even before they have been built, but the company says it still has 19 slots open. In case you're wondering who's crazy enough to own a Donkervoort, check out the video below.
